YOUNG FAMILIES PROGRAMS:

[3-6 years of age] Handwriting Without Tears

Day: TUESDAY
Time: 9:30am-11:30am

We engage children with music, movement, fine motor activities, and child-friendly language. They learn uppercase letter formation and how to print using hands-on materials and developmentally appropriate activities. Fine motor work prepares students for pencil and paper success. [Birth-12 months] Musical Babies

Musical Babies is a program for parents/caregivers and babies to experience different types of instruments while singing songs, learning rhymes and participating in parachute play. For more information, please contact Stacey at 905-303-8490 Ext. 151. [0-6 years of age] Brighter Beginnings & AOK

Day: THURSDAY
Time: 9:30am-11:30am
Location: VCHC Suite 106
Date: September 15-June 13, 2017
Together these programs are open to families with children birth-6 years and provide an opportunity to meet other parents and caregivers, let your children play with other children, take workshops, share stories, borrow child development and parenting resource materials, or just play with your children and have a lot of fun! Come and join us for a 6 week program that will engage children and parents in a range of different science experiments and activities. [12-15 years of age] Urban Chefs

Day: SATURDAY
Time: 9:30am-12:30pm
Location: VCHC Suite 106
Date: Sept 24-Nov 5, 2016
For teens age 12-15 years to practice essential kitchen skills along with their peers – from food preparation such as washing and cutting, reading and following recipes to cleaning up. A group program to assist in adjusting to Canada and improve wellbeing through stress management, sharing and discussion. Relaxation techniques will be practiced as part of the group session. Arthritis Rehabilitation and Education Program (AREP)

Day: TUESDAY

The VCHC hosts a monthly arthritis clinic in partnership with The Arthritis Society. The occupation therapist provides one on one counselling on arthritis management where you will learn how to deal with pain, arthritis medication, and exercise to reduce stiffness, increase strength and improve fitness. If you are interested in making a one on one appointment, please talk to your primary care provider for a referral to the clinic. Program participants meet in a safe, empowering environment where they can learn and share skills on food budgeting, meal planning, grocery shopping, healthy recipes and cooking healthy meals. Presentations will also be provided by a Community Dietitian. [19+ years of age] Conquering Anxiety

Day: WEDNESDAY

Do you have anxiety? Is your anxiety overwhelming? Does it interfere with your daily function? If so, join this 10 week supportive group to learn more about: understanding anxiety, identifying thoughts associated with it, recognizing anxiety triggers, and developing new strategies of overcoming anxiety. Living a Healthy Life with Diabetes Workshop

Day: THURSDAY

This free program will provide participants with an opportunity to learn how to manage prediabetes and diabetes through physical activity education, healthy eating tips, distraction and visualization methods, weekly goal setting and problem solving.
