NEW-Hip Hop Dance Program-Every Thursday-Starting February 2, 2012 to March 29, 2012-4:00pm-5:30pm-The Hip Hop Dance program is a 6 week program for youth ages 14-18. The Hip Hop program will be an outlet for youth to be expressive. Learn and share different dance styles. Youth will have the chance to develop a new skill or gain more insight on the art of dance and music. Heart Health-Thursday, February 2, 2012-10:00am-12:00pm-Learn basic information about cholesterol. Understand what blood cholesterol values mean and learn about heart healthy eating and lifestyle changes. Find out about hidden salt in foods and strategies to reduce salt intake. NEW-Childminding Training-Every Monday-Starting February 13, 2012 to May 14, 2012-The purpose of the program is to train participants on how to deliver group childcare.  Topics include child development, nutrition and program planning.  Participants must commit to full  attendance and a 12-hour volunteer placement at VCHC. Women’s Wellness Program—Every Tuesday—10:00am-11:45am—Resuming January 10, 2012 to March 6, 2012—The Women’s Wellness Program provides a safe space for women in Vaughan to enjoy a cup of coffee and speak with other women and health professionals on various topics, such as: nutrition, stress management, leisure time activities, women’s safety and so much more! Taking it Easy—Yoga and Meditation for Older Adults—Every Tuesday-1:00pm-3:00pm-Resuming January 10, 2012 to July 31, 2012—Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women and VCHC is offering free yoga and meditation sessions for older adults (ages 55+ years). Yoga and meditation is a wonderful way to maintain health and wellness in your busy life. Experience complete relaxation, a boost in energy and improvement in flexibility. Let’s Dance—Fun and Interactive Program for Older Adults—Every Wednesday—1:00pm-3:00pm—January 25, 2012 to March 28, 2012—The “Let’s Dance” program has been created for older adults of any ability and dance experience.  This program will offer a mixture of dance forms, dancing without partners, and emphasis on injury prevention.  Classes will be lead by a York University Recreation Instructor and will consist of elements from Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, Folk and World dances, Line dances, and creative and expressive elements. Conquering Anxiety—Every Wednesday—5:30pm-7:30pm—Starting January 25, 2012 to April 11, 2012Do you have anxiety? Is your anxiety overwhelming? Does it interfere with your daily function? If so, join this 12 week supportive group to learn more about: understanding anxiety, identifying thoughts associated with it, recognizing anxiety triggers, and developing new strategies of overcoming anxiety. International Women's Day Celebration-Thursday, March 8, 2012-11:00am-1:00pm-Each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Please join us at Vaughan Community Health Centre in celebrating women's economic, political and social achievements, as well as showing our respect, appreciation and love    towards women.  Our celebration will take place from 11:00am-1:00pm on Thursday March 8th and will include some guest speakers and a light lunch. Babysitters Training Program-Youth Program (ages 13-16 years old)-Friday, March 9, 2012-9:00am-5:00pm-This free training program will provide youth with an opportunity to develop skills about child development, food/nutrition and basic first aid. Living with Stroke-Every Friday-1:00pm-3:00pm-April 27, 2012 to June 1, 2012-Community-based support and educational program designed for stroke survivors and their caregivers to gain confidence in managing the challenges of living with stroke.   The 8-week program allows you to develop new skills, make new friends and gain confidence in your ability to control your life. Services

Our multi-disciplinary team serves all residents of Vaughan, with a special focus on seniors, youth and people living with mental health and addiction issues.

Our services will include:

  • Family Medicine
  • Chiropody

    The Chiropodist at the VCHC works with our clients to achieve healthy, pain free feet for daily living. A comprehensive foot assessment will be completed and the development of an individualized treatment plan will be implemented. The treatment plan is focused on improving foot health and resolving foot pain. Yearly foot exams are performed on all Diabetics, risk factors are identified and self care deficits are explained to our diabetic clients to achieve optimum foot health.     

  • Physiotherapy

    The VCHC Physiotherapist works with our clients to get them moving again. Physiotherapist address health conditions affecting breathing, the muscles, the bones, the heart and the nervous system. VCHC physiotherapy clients are seen on a short term basis for one-on-one sessions.  A comprehensive physiotherapy assessment will be completed followed by the development of a treatment plan focused to meet the client’s personal needs and goals. Treatment plans will focus on improving range of motion, strength, balance, mobility and function, as well as promoting healing and reducing pain. Treatment plans may include manual therapy, exercise, and education, with a special emphasis placed on self-management

  • Diabetes—education and management for adults with Type 2 Diabetes
  • Counselling

    The VCHC Social Worker provides counselling and support for individuals, couples and families to help them enhance their wellbeing, meet certain needs, develop skills and abilities to problem solve. Most social workers deal with many different types of concerns such as, relationship problems, family conflicts, financial problems, violence, depression, bereavement, addiction as well as other difficulties. All counselling sessions are confidential.

  • Nutrition services

    Dietitians at VCHC are uniquely trained to advise you on food, diet and nutrition and the relationship between what you eat and your health. Community Dietitians offer one-on-one counselling on nutritional management of various medical issues as well as healthy eating at different life stages. Some health issues Dietitians address include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, weight management, child nutrition, anemia, and various gastrointestinal disorders. The Community Dietitian will complete a thorough nutritional assessment and offer specific recommendations that fit your preferences and lifestyle. The dietitian will follow-up with you over time to ensure that the recommendations are appropriate for you. The community dietitian also facilitates group sessions on various nutritional topics. Examples include weight management and nutritional anemias.
